Genre: Adventure/Fantasy

I’m amazed by author John Flanagan’s ability to maintain consistency over such a long series. The world and characters feel the same from book to book and his style of storytelling never alter! Plus, the characters remain just as humorous, intelligent, and honorable as ever. That’s some incredible writing and I love that you can keep coming back to these characters and this series and it feels as if you never left.

Since it is the eighth book in the series, you should know the goodness of the characters and storytelling by now! The Kings of Clonmel is a great book to pick up if you’ve taken a break from the series. It has the right amount of recap and gives the reader a nice sweeping introduction to all the other characters that appeared in various books and have stepped in and out of Will Treaty’s life.

This book is interesting with its religious cult intrigue and, more interesting yet, the reader is finally exposed to Halt’s background and family ties. Book Eight is as good as ever in the Ranger’s Apprentice series and the conditional recommendation is only for the fighting and gore that’s no different from any of the other books in the series.

The Kings of Clonmel is clearly linked to the next book, Halt’s Peril, because it ends with the team setting out on the trail of some escaped cult members.

If you haven’t yet listened to any of these books read by John Keating—get on that! You’re missing out!

Summary from the Publisher

When a cult springs up in neighboring Clonmel, promising to quell the recent attacks by lawless marauders, people flock from all over to offer gold in exchange for protection. But Halt is all to familiar with this particular group, and he knows they have a less than charitable agenda. Secrets will be unveiled and battles fought to the death as Will and Horace help Halt in ridding the land of a dangerous enemy.
